As soon as I stepped into Halie and Mark’s home on the day of their DAR Constitution Hall wedding in early June, I knew we were in for a treat. Halie owns a budding interiors company in Washington, DC and brought her exquisite style and taste into every nook and cranny of their wedding design. Their wedding details featured a blue and white chinoiserie print, combined with rattan textures throughout. From the mismatched bridesmaids dresses, to the hand drawn toile print a friend designed featuring their monogram and things they love, no detail was forgotten. I especially loved the rattan chairs from Something Vintage Rentals, which brought an air of Southern charm to Halie and Mark’s decor, and a nod to Halie’s roots attending college in South Carolina.
I also love when the groom gets incorporated into the details! During cocktail hour on the Portico at DAR, guests found their seating assignments vis-a-vis the golf ball escort display, which had the couple’s monogram printed on it. Fitting, seeing that Mark enjoyed a round of golf with his boys the morning of the wedding. (Pro tip- if you plan on doing this, be sure to apply LOTS of sunscreen and wear protective sun gear so you don’t get burnt right before photos). A custom oak bar accented with scalloped edge umbrellas kept guests hydrated and cool in the DC humidity. Inside the O’Byrne Gallery, table numbers featured the couple’s favorite DC spots, accented by beautiful florals and a ginger gar mantelpiece installation from She Loves Me.
DAR Constitution Hall is my favorite wedding venue in Washington DC, and I think this may be my all time favorite design that I’ve photographed here. Design aside, my favorite part of the day was when Halie and Mark said to me, “Winnie, what are we going to do without you in our life?” *Insert warm squishy feelings!* It is truly a joy to walk through life with my couples for the year plus of planning, getting to know them better and help them create the most magical celebrations.
