Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of shooting an intimate wedding elopement at the DC War Memorial. Marilyn and Matt had big wedding plans for the summer, which all came to a screeching halt with COVID-19. They decided to tie the knot in an elopement ceremony at the DC War Memorial with just their parents and siblings- 12 people! Not many people even know this memorial exists, but it is one of my favorites. The DC War Memorial is also one of the only places on National Parks land where you can get married in Washington DC. There is a two hour time limit for weddings/elopements at the DC War Memorial, which is the perfect amount of time for an intimate ceremony and portraits. Ironically, the last photography session I shot before we went into lockdown was also at the DC War Memorial, so it was only fitting that I “restart” my 2020 wedding season here as well!
There is something truly wonderful about celebrating with just your nearest and dearest. Marilyn’s brother officiated the ceremony, and the couple exchanged heartfelt vows to one another. We followed up their ceremony with some portraits with their families and the two of them. Oh, and the flowers? Marilyn’s father used to work in hospitality and did all of the arrangements- such beauties! They will host their big celebration next year, but I think it’s safe to say that until then, this little elopement ceremony is full of all of the love and happiness that we need in our lives right now.
