I photographed this beautiful family’s maternity session earlier this fall, and this November, little Survi made her grand entrance into the world! I love watching my clients’ families grow, and photographing this lifestyle newborn session was a beautiful way to encapsulate this exciting time in their lives.
I’ve had quite a few inquiries about newborn sessions lately, and thought I would take a few moments to discuss the different styles of newborn photography that are available: lifestyle (what Winnie Dora Photography offers) and studio/posed newborn photography. Lifestyle newborn sessions differ from studio/posed newborn photography in that the emphasis of the session lies with capturing your family’s candid interactions and everyday moments with your little one. Posed newborn sessions, on the other hand, take place in a traditional studio environment, oftentimes with many props, outfit changes, and seemingly acrobatic-like baby poses. I love shooting lifestyle sessions because because of their candid nature. Since the focus is on interactions and in-between moments in the family’s home, every session is unique! I also love capturing nursery details, heirloom objects such as baby blankets that may have been passed down in the family that parents spend so much time lovingly designing, such as in Gianna’s newborn session.
In this family’s case, their condo doesn’t get much natural light, so they came over to my home which is set up for neutral, minimally styled lifestyle newborn sessions. My house was decorated for Christmas, so big sister Saanvi had a blast exploring other areas of the house in between shots. As with any photo session, the most important factor in choosing a location (your home or mine?) is light. Preferably lots and lots of natural light from multiple, large windows, and neutral colored walls that do not cast different colors on the skin.
